I grew up on a farm in Christian County, Kentucky. We raised cattle and crops. We depended on each other. We worked hard.
In my senior year, I traveled 45 miles a day to graduate high school from Clarksville Academy, Clarksville, Tennessee. My wonderful parents, my brother and my sister, believed in a good education and pushed me to aim high.
Working summers to pay for the University of Louisville, I went on to earn a Juris Doctor Degree from Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University while employed as a law clerk at Ware, Bryson, West, Hiltz and Bartlett, a law firm in Covington, Kentucky.
As a young lawyer, I started my own practice and then practiced with other lawyers, but I was always motivated to “make a difference” for injured people or people changed by the wrongful death of a loved one. And so, in 2005, I walked away from all other types of legal work, and focused exclusively on personal injury and wrongful death cases.
Most of my practice involves motor vehicle collisions involving automobiles, motorcycles, business vehicles and semi-trucks. But I handle many other types of cases, including cases involving wrongful death due to dangerous machinery, major slip and fall injuries, or electrocution. For the various types of cases I handle, click “Practice Areas.”
I am eligible to practice law before any State or Federal Court in Kentucky or Tennessee. I successfully litigated against Walmart, a case that went to the Supreme Court of Kentucky. That case, Lanier v. Wal-Mart Stores Inc., 99 S.W.3d 431 (Ky. 2003), changed the law regarding premises liability in Kentucky and has since been cited in over 40 cases, the 6th Circuit and in six states.
I have several published articles. I am a member of the Kentucky and American Justice Associations and the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys. I successfully tried a case involving GEICO insurance company that was the second most voluminous case in Division One of the Christian Circuit Court, Christian County, Kentucky. I have taught seminars for lawyers in legal technology and personal injury.
My office, Burman Law, is recognized as a leader in legal technology. We are constantly training and looking for ways to use robust technology to lessen the time it takes to litigate a case, and to make litigation less expensive. The Burman Law Client Portal is an example of our commitment to expanding legal services through technology.
My wife of more than 30 years, Lisa Burman, keeps me focused on the things that really matter, and my four children amaze me with their passion for education and drive to be the best.
I enjoy co-counseling with lawyers in tough cases, and helping people searching to “make right” a tough situation. I look forward to talking about your case, and learning your story.
